23 Nov 2020: Journalist Rana Ibrar Khalid files request under RTI Act with Cabinet Division for details of Tosha Khana gifts received by PM Imran Khan. Request denied.
17 Dec 2020: Complaint filed with Pak Information Commission (PIC) against Cabinet Div.
26 Jan 2021: PIC directs Cabinet Div to provide requested information; Cabinet Div. doesn’t comply.
17 Mar 2022: Rana Ibrar Khalid files petition with Islamabad High Court (IHC) to get the required information.
20 Apr 2022: IHC directs Cabinet Div to provide the requested information.
25 May 2022: PIC imposes fine on Cabinet Secretary for not complying with its direction.
4 Jul 2022: Mohsin Ranjha, MNA (PMLN, Punjab) files reference against Imran Khan with the Speaker National Assembly for not providing details of Tosha Khana gifts in his Annual Statements of Assets & Liabilities for the years 2018-19, 2019-20 and requested that Mr. Imran Khan be disqualified to hold and to contest for an elective office.
4 Aug 2022: Speaker NA forwards the reference to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP)
21 Oct 2022: ECP passes order finding Mr. Imran Khan guilty and disqualifying him to hold membership of National Assembly.
22 Oct 2022: Mr. Imran Khan challenges ECP order in IHC
21 Nov 2022: ECP files criminal complaint against IK under Section 190 of Elections Act for trial for committing corrupt practices as defined under Section 167 and Section 173 of the Elections Act punishable under Section 174 of the Act.
8 Nov 2022: Case is instituted against IK in Sessions Court West Islamabad.
15 Dec 2022: Complaint admitted by the Sessions Court.
5 May 2023: Questions raised by IK re the jurisdiction of the court and admissibility of the complaint are dismissed by the court
10 May 2023: Charge framed against IK.
4 July 2023: Stay order of IHC vacated
8 Jul 2023: IK’s lawyers’ application for adjournment and exemptions dismissed by the court.
5 Aug 2023: Additional Sessions Judge West – Islamabad announces judgment; convicts Mr. Imran Khan, sentences him to three years simple imprisonment and Rs. 100, 000 fine, the maximum penalty that could be awarded under section 174 of the Elections Act, 2017; issues arrest warrants for IK. IK arrested from his Zaman Park residence in Lahore by Police and transported to Attock jail.
